Janitorial professional and cleaning companies say they see a certain correlation between mopping with microfiber products and a reduction of health and fatigue related issues. To minimize and or prevent fatigue and a possible injury, janitorial professional are adopting adjustable, ergonomic cleaning tools. For example, mop handles that can adjust to the height of each user, make it easier to mop. This prevents the user from having to reach as far while mopping.

Best mops are those that give users much more versatility by enabling them to dust on different levels. If you are dry dusting the hospital floor and see dust on a window ledge or a light, it is better if same mob can reach all areas can by adjusting the handle.

Microfiber mops

One cant emphasize enough on cleanliness. The appearance of work or living spaces is vital to the overall perception of a society. Fairly general statement but true. The cleanliness of our living spaces directly affects the attitudes and modes of people and of societies

Cleanliness is not for appearance alone though. We need clean environment for health, environment, quality of living, and yes, also for living clean.

Janitorial professionals say by experience that microfiber mops ore one of the most important cleaning tools. Compared to cotton or looped mops, microfiber removes twice the dirt and dust because the microfibers attract dirt. Technically speaking a microfiber dry mop eliminates the use of dust mop chemicals, addresses bacterial control issues and generally collects more dirt than a conventional dust mop. Dry microfiber mops are also much easier to maintain than cotton mops. In addition to dry mopping, microfiber proves beneficial when used as a wet mop. In a demonstration after mopping with the cotton mop, the same area was mopped again with a microfiber mop and the microfiber picked up a considerable amount of dirt left behind after the initial cleaning, showing its effectiveness. Microfiber mops also help eliminate cross-contamination because new pads are replaced easily after mopping each room or area. . . . . Read the rest of this article »

Odor control

Odor control is one of the important processes for healthy and clean environment. There are many techniques and tools for different commercial, industrial or residential facilities.

One basic rule is that never mask odors with fresh scents. Odor will never go away unless the source is removed. Hence, cleaning, getting rid of odor sources, is the first step to control odor. Another rule is clean often and disinfect. BTW, just as important as using a disinfectant is using it properly. Simply spraying and wiping will not do the job. Poor cleaning techniques rather create odor. Like when a mop head smells bad, that odor is being transmitted throughout the space being cleaned. Or if vacuum bags is emptied on a regular basis, it will start spreading odors.

Frequent cleaning is also necessary to effectively remove all odors. More so in places with high traffic. Also it is important to clean items like wastebaskets full of odor-producing sanitary napkins and wet paper towels, as well as office space wastebaskets that may harbor coffee grounds and drippings. . . . . Green cleaning or less cleaning

Concept of green cleaning is getting more popular with every day passing. Thanks to increasing awareness that more and more people trying to stay green. Lately I came across a very interesting (read it innovative approach) to green cleaning. I am delighted to share it here for janitor readers.
Recently a gust who checked into a hotel and was asked if he would like his room “green cleaned.” BTW, the hotel does use non-toxic chemicals, their green cleaning program meant that the guest had the choice of whether housekeeping would service room every night during his visit.

According to the hotel, for each night a guest skips having his room cleaned, He would earn a few bucks off food or drinks, but he would help the environment by saving nearly 50 gallons of water and using less electricity and natural gas. These “green” savings are a result of declining towel and linen laundering, but to participate a guest has to forgo room cleaning as well. . . . . Read the rest of this article »

Cleaning research

Some people see dust everywhere whereas some other don’t. A study crossed my desk that says that cleaning is obsessive. “Our obsession with cleaning could be linked to rising rates of depression, scientists claim,” it reads. Researchers find that eliminating bacteria and viruses has actually made our immune systems weaker, and this in turn has affected the functioning of our brains.”

Researchers say that over-reaction may also impair the brain’s ability to produce certain chemicals that make us happy. They point out that rates of depression are far higher in the developed world compared to less developed world, because people’s immune systems are less trained to cope with bacteria. Around one in ten Britons suffers from depression compared to just one in a hundred in Nigeria, for example. As people develop and grow up, their immune system develops. If they are exposed to more bacteria and parasites, they are able to better control the inflammation.

Empirical observations show that nowadays people’s environment is much cleaner and hygienic so our immune system never really learns how to deal with infectious agents. We are overactive because our immune system has not been trained. . . . . Read the rest of this article »
